Roles & Permissions

ReleaseTag uses a role-based access system at both the organization and project level. Each level has four roles: Owner, Admin, Member, and Guest.

Roles overview

  • Owner — Full access to the organization or project, including billing, deletion, and transferring ownership.
  • Admin — Can manage settings, integrations, and team members. Cannot access billing or delete the organization.
  • Member — Can view and interact with conversations, insights, and actions. Cannot change settings or manage the team.
  • Guest — Read-only access. Can view conversations, insights, and actions but cannot create, edit, or delete anything.

Two-level membership

Organization roles and project roles are independent. A user can be an Admin at the organization level but a Member on a specific project, or vice versa. This lets you give broad access to some people while restricting others to specific projects.

When you invite someone to a project, they also need to be a member of the organization. If they aren't already, they'll be added as a Guest at the organization level automatically.

Inviting members

Owners and Admins can invite new members from the team settings page. Invite links expire after 7 days. You can invite people at both the organization and project level:

  • Organization invites — Go to Organization Settings Team
  • Project invites — Go to Project SettingsTeam

Changing roles

Owners and Admins can change a member's role from the team settings page. Every organization must have at least one Owner — you cannot remove or demote the last Owner.

Guest access

Guests have read-only access. They can browse conversations, insights, and actions but cannot make any changes. This is useful for stakeholders who need visibility without the ability to modify data. Guests see a "Read-only" badge in the interface where write actions would normally appear.
